By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, March 15 Dr MC Agarwal, who was abducted from Athgaon area here on Tuesday, was today rescued from Nalbari, a few hours after three persons were arrested from Guwahati today.

Dr Agarwal was abducted by unidentified miscreants from his private chamber around 8:15 pm on Tuesday and the Maruti van in which he was whisked away was recovered yesterday from Nalbari.

Senior Superintendent of Police (City) AJ Baruah informed The Assam Tribune that Dr Agarwal was rescued around 5:30 this evening from Na-mati-Naherbari area in Nalbari district from a dwelling house.

The house where Dr Agarwal was kept as a hostage was tracked down on the basis of confessions made by the arrested trio.

Those arrested have been identified as Himangsu Saloi, Bhabani Kalita and Kulen Kalita.

"Since the abduction, we had cordoned off the Nalbari district, due to which the miscreants free movement was hampered. Although the arrested persons apparently do not seem to have affiliation with any militant outfit, there could be a possibility of them hiring militants to mastermind the abduction. Investigation is on and the mystery surrounding the abduction would soon be solved," Baruah said.

"So far the intention of the abduction is not totally clear. Once the victim arrives at Guwahati, we would follow up with the investigation," he added.

Our Nalbari Correspondent adds: According to police sources, a joint team of army and police personnel today cordoned off the Na-mati-Naherbari area and carried out door-to-door operation. During the operation, the police succeeded in rescuing the abducted doctor from the house of one Jiban Pandit.

It may be mentioned here that the police on Wednesday evening recovered the Maruti van used by the physician from Saplekuchi village near Na-mati-Naherbari area. The recovery of the Maruti van of the doctor led to the rescue of the doctor.
