Abducted Assam traders released unharmed in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Nov 2 - Ten traders of Assam who were abducted by militants from Meghalaya last week were today released unharmed at a place in South Garo Hills following an operation launched by police against the ultras.

�Today morning, all the 10 traders were released in a Meghalaya forest area near Gasuapara unconditionally,� district SP Anand Mishra said.

The traders were presently at Gasuapara outpost and in good health. They will be escorted to their residences after being examined, he said.

Armed militants had abducted the traders hailing from Mankachar area of Assam on October 28. The incident took place near a forest area at Bilkona when the traders were on their way to a weekly market.

Earlier reports said that nine traders were abducted. Following the abduction, police had launched search and rescue operations mounting pressure on the abductors, Mishra said. � PTI
