AAU teachers, students, oppose probe on VC

JORHAT, April 22 � In a protest against the Governor�s (Chancellor�s) order for an inquiry into alleged administrative, financial and academic irregularities and illegalities by the present Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), students and employees of the AAU today said that the �order for inquiry was a violation of the Assam Agricultural University Act, 1969�.

Demanding cancellation of the Chancellor�s order, hundreds of students of the university closed the main gate of the university here and abstained from their routine academic activities for the day, while the teachers� association, faculty of agriculture, faculty of home science, employees� association, drivers� association, engineering service association, grade four employees� association of the university expressed their disappointment on the inquiry.

In a press conference at the university campus, the AAU teacher�s association�s president appealed the Chancellor to cancel his order for the probe against Vice Chancellor Dr KM Bujarbaruah as �no guidelines and principles of the AAU Act, 1969 was followed during the announcement of the inquiry�.

Members of the AAU employees� association said that the Chancellor had on April 18 ordered an inquiry by a three-member body, comprising Justice (retired) BD Agarwal, HK Gayan and P Birmiwal, on the basis of allegations submitted by seven complainants.
