AASU urges Govt to rein in drug peddlers

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 5 - The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has urged the State government and the police to intensify drive against drugs peddlers.

Referring to the growing number of children and youth who were increasingly falling victim to drugs, the AASU said that the State government and the police have totally failed in putting some semblance of curb on the menace.

The AASU also criticised the State government for granting licence to wine shops, causing the mushrooming growth of such shops across every nook and corner of the State.

The drug peddlers caught by the police must be handed rigorous punishment so as to discourage others from doing so, said an AASU statement.
