AASU unit for home delivery of textbooks

By CORRESPONDENT

JORABAT, April 15 - While expressing concern at the situation prevailing in the State following the spread of COVID-19, the Kamrup Metro district unit of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) today called upon the government to put in place a mechanism to deliver textbooks at the doorsteps of students.

The government needs to think about the urgent requirement of textbooks for promoted students who have failed to get their books due to the lockdown, said Dibyojyoti Medhi, general secretary of the AASU unit, in a press release.

The student body also drew the attention of the government to the fact that some areas like Dimoria, Chandrapur and others have been left out by the district administration for sale of vegetables. Vegetable sale points designated by the administration are nowhere to be seen in these interior areas, while there are as many as 82 such points in the main city, it said.

The student body also demanded of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury to work actively to control the price hike and to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities in the State. It threatened to launch an agitation if the minister fails to do so, the release added.
