BAIHATA CHARIALI, April 8 - Hundreds of AASU activists under the banner of Pub-Kamrup unit of AASU on Saturday blocked the National Highways 31 and 15 along with the busy Chariali-Ramgaon-Nagrijuli PWD road at Baihata Chariali protesting against the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned in repairing the roads.
The students took out a rally with flag, placards and festoons shouting slogans against the Chief Minister, PWD Minister and the PWD for their deep slumber in taking prompt action in this regard. They also blocked the roads causing severe traffic snarls in the vicinity for more than an hour. Considering the gravity of the situation, Dr Bedanga Talukdar, Circle Officer of Kamalpur Revenue Circle, rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation and had a discussion with the student activists. They had also submitted a memorandum demanding construction of road side drains, regular supply of electricity, smooth supply of drinking water, restarting of water supply projects, containing anti-social activities. In the programme Dhiraj Rajbongshi, Kamal Deka and Pradip Kumar Deka, president, vice president and finance secretary of the All Kamrup district unit of AASU, Hemen Das, Ranjan Kalita and Prabin Kumar Deka, president, assistant secretary and publicity secretary of the Rangiya subdivision unit of AASU took part in the rally and castigated the state government.
