AASU stir over school issues

GUWAHATI, Feb 9 � The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) today announced a series of agitation in protest against the apathy of the present Government in the State towards the vernacular medium schools and its failure to supply books to the students, besides providing adequate number of teachers and class rooms in the schools.

To mark beginning of the agitation its members would stage demonstrations in front of the officers of the District Elementary Education Officers on February 11. Its members would stage further demonstrations in front of the offices of the district and sub-divisional educational officers on the above issues on February 14, 15 and 16.

The students' body in a statement here also alleged that the present Government led by Tarun Gogoi has been leading the Government-run educational institutions to obliteration. The Government has not been able to supply textbooks to the students of these schools even after elapse of one month of the current academic year.

The students belonging to Classes V and VIII are yet to get class room accommodation, teachers and textbooks, alleged the students' body.
