AASU stages massive satyagraha in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 2 - Hundreds of students and other youths today staged a massive satyagraha against the controversial notification of the Narendra Modi-led government on accommodating Hindu foreigners who entered India due to so called religious persecution in their own countries.

The satyagraha organised by the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) was supported by several other ethnic organisations. Hundreds of students turned up from several parts of the district particularly from schools and colleges joined the protest march.

The protest march was flagged off from the Kokrajhar Rasmela field. The march was led by AASU adviser Samujal Kr Bhattacharjee, general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and other AASU leaders.

The students marched to Kokrajhar Rasmela field via RNB Road-Thana Road. The protesters raised anti-BJP and anti-Congress slogans during the procession. The

traffic on the procession route came to a standstill for about two hours. The procession concluded at the Kokrajhar Rasmela field.

The AASU leaders and several other ethnic organisation leaders voiced their protest against the notification of the Government of India on providing shelter to the Hindu foreigners. The leaders said that they will never allow foreigners to settle in the State on the basis of religion and urged upon the BJP Government that another Assam agitation must not be provoked.
