TEZPUR, June 11 � The speech of Abdul Muhib Mazumdar on Assam Accord orientation at Assam Assembly on Wednesday was against the indigenous people of Assam, said Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya, advisor, AASU in a press meet held on Thursday at the Tarun Asom Sangha. The Assam Accord is a national commitment letter of Rajiv Gandhi gave to the people of India while unfurling the National Flag at Red Fort. He further said that Abdul Muhib Mazumdar, an architect of IM(DT) Act, was a friend of the AGP and Congress. He lost his credibility after the scrapping of IM(DT) Act by apex court, so he has brought up this issue to get into the limelight, Bhattacharyya added. All the political parties present in the House did not oppose him. Even the Congress party leader Tarun Gogoi did not oppose his statement in the house, he added.
Bhattacharyya warned Abdul Muhib Mazumdar not to make such a statement against the Assam Accord and asked Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to take action against him.
Bhattacharyya further stated that the AASU wants a time bound action plan from the Government to implement the accord. The delay in implementation of the accord has been helping the illegal influx posing a serious threat to very existence of indigenous people of Assam, he added. If the trend continues then after 10 years, a Bangladeshi will become the Chief Minister of Assam, he said expressing his extreme annoyance, AASU had predicted the change of demographic pattern of Assam 25 years back and truth has been revealed in the home minister�s statement recently, Bhattacharyya added.
He further added 49 tribal belts and blocks have been encroached by Bangladeshis in Assam and the Kaziranga National Park is no exception in this regard. All the political parties like the AGP, CPIM, CPI, BJP, AIUDF and BPF were silent in this regard as these political parties have helped the illegal migrants in setting up vote bank. All the political parties were in power at the State or the Centre for the last 25 years but these political parties were not able to implement the Assam Accord, he added. AASU has been holding talks with various ethnic bodies for finalising strategies to pressurise the Government for a time bound implementation of the Assam accord, Bhattacharyya added. The implementation of Assam Accord would solve the illegal migrant problem in Assam, he said.
Addressing the press conference, AASU general secretary Tapan Gogoi also condemned Mazumdar for his alleged statement against the Assam Accord.
