AASU, SAKP observe Preronar Din

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 18 - To encourage government officials and employees associated with the NRC update work in Assam, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Sadau Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) today observed Preronar Din throughout the State.

Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement, who laid their lives for the cause of making Assam free from illegal migrants, and demanding a foolproof NRC in State, the regional units of AASU organised programmes in all the districts of the State.

The document verification process for NRC would complete within May 31, and the second and final draft would be published on June 30. So, only 43 days are left for the final draft of the NRC to get published. Through Preronar Din we want to encourage all the official and employees associated with the NRC work in the State to do their best to ensure that no illegal migrants could enter his or her name in the NRC at any cost, the students body said.

In Guwahati too, the day was observed at Ganeshguri, which was attended by AASU and SAKP leaders.

The government officials and other employees associated with NRC update work are doing a great service to the State. Due to their alertness and hard work, we are looking forward to get an error-free NRC in State, said SAKP president Basab Kalita.

He also mentioned about the hardship faced by such employees, who are deployed in vulnerable locations of the State and asked the government to take steps for their safety and security, specially during the final days of verification and final draft preparation.

Speaking on the occasion, AASU advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya said that the State is finally going to get an updated NRC, which would help in protecting the rights of the people of Assam.

AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and SAKP general secretary Fakharuddin Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
