AASU rallies against aliens

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 15 - AASU members took out torchlight processions at the district and subdivisional headquarters of the State this evening in support of their demand for setting up a special task force to detect foreigners, delete their names from the electoral rolls and deport them.

They also demanded Constitutional and economic safeguards to the indigenous peoples of the State, steps to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border on a war footing and scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which has sought to grant citizenship rights to those Hindu people who have migrated from Bangladesh after March 24, 1971.

In the city, AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharyya and its general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi led the procession. In a statement, they resented that the Assam Accord was not implemented during the past 32 years.
