AASU protest over non-implementation

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 � Protesting against the non-implementation of Assam Accord and demanding rehabilitation of only Indian citizens who are affected in the BTAD violence, the All Assam Students� Union staged protest demonstration march throughout the State.

With the demands like NRC update, Constitutional safeguard for indigenous people of Assam and a time-bound action plan for implementation of Assam Accord, AASU activists led protest programmes in all the district headquarters.

Asking the Government to take a firm stand on the foreigners� issue, AASU said that while going to rehabilitate the riot victims of BTAD, the illegal migrants should not be given land patta or any other legal identification. �The right over land should be given to the indigenous people and the Bangladesh border should be sealed immediately.�

In Guwahati, a large number of protesters came out on the roads. The march was led by AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya, president Shankar Prasad Roy and general secretary Tapan Gogoi.
