AASU protest against citizenship move

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 - The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) today registered a strong protest throughout the State against the Union Government�s decision to give citizenship to the religious minorities of the neighbouring countries on religious grounds.

Alleging that the Centre�s decision would impose additional burden of refugees on Assam, the AASU staged a Satyagraha in every State headquarters and submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioners of every district.

�It is an injustice to Assam and the people of the State. Assam would never accept the burden of Hindu Bangladeshis,� stated the protesters.

Protesters with placards against the Centre and the Government of Assam came out on the streets with demands of implementation of the Assam Accord, solution of the foreigner�s problem according to the Assam Accord, strong deterrence against the entry of fundamentalist forces in Assam.
