GUWAHQATI, Feb 4 The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has opQposeQd the move announced by Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to hold teachers eligibility test (TET) for the working teachers too, as an absurd one.

In a statement here today, AASU education secretary Mani Madhav Mahanta said that the announcement made by the Education Minister into this regard is self-contradictory. This announcement is an insult to the working teachers.

The Education Minister had said that TET is a test for those aspiring to become teachers. If that be the case, subjecting the working teachers to TET is quite unacceptable, said the AASU education secretary.

He suggested that the Government should rather go for training the working teachers properly in view of the changes taking place in the curriculums and teaching methods. This will benefit the students.
