AASU observes Silpi Divas at Sonari

SONARI, Jan 18 � The All Assam Students Union (AASU) observed the Silpi Divas centrally here on Saturday.

The day�s programme began with the hoisting of the AASU flag by the student body�s president Sankar Prasad Roy. AASU general secretary Tapan Gogoi then initiated the swahid tarpan programme. Jayasree Chaliha, daughter of Jyotiprasad Agarwala then garlanded the portrait of the Rupkonwar.

Samujjal Bhattacharya, adviser, AASU, unveiled a bust of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala in front of the student body�s Sonari regional unit office here. Later, the �Janagosthiya Sanskritik Samaroh� was inaugurated by folk artiste Khagen Gogoi.

In the evening an open session was held under the presidentship of Sankar Prasad Roy where Samujjal Bhattacharya was the chief guest besides other dignitaries. In the programme, Dr Anil Saikia, principal, Moran College released a souvenir published on the occasion. The meet also saw Bhadanta Sasanbonsa Mahathere, Makhan Bora, Haren Rajuwar, Suruj Patir, Ghanashyam Khanikar and Sarvakanta Basumatary being felicitated.
