AASU moves EC over aliens� names in voters� list

GUWAHATI, Jan 8 � The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) today urged the Election Commission (EC) of India to take immediate and necessary steps to delete the names of foreigners from the voters� list.

Expressing concern on the alleged inclusion of foreigners� name in the electoral roll, the students� body said that it has posed a serious threat to the identity and existence of the indigenous people of Assam.

�Special mechanism should be put in place to ensure a voters� list free from foreigners,� AASU president Sankar Prasad Rai and general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi said.

Infiltration from neighbouring country Bangladesh has been a real concern, which should be addressed with utmost sincerity.
