By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 6 The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has requested the NF Railway authorities to introduce a train for spreading the works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika in other parts of the country. The train should be named as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Train, it said.

It has also pleaded for introduction of an important long-distance train after the name of Dr Hazarika, besides naming the Guwahati Railway Station after this multifaceted cultural icon of the country, who attained the stature of a legend during his lifetime with invaluable works in the fields of music, filmmaking and journalism, among others.

The memorandum submitted by the AASU to the NF Railway authorities on November 28 also pleaded for other measures to immortalise the unparalleled contributions of Dr Hazarika in the cultural arena.

During his interaction with the members of the AASU delegation on November 28, NF Railway General Manager Keshav Chand said that he would take up the AASU pleas with the Railway Minister and the Railway Board and would take appropriate measures to materialize them.

The AASU has also urged the Union Railway Minister, Chief Minister of Assam and all Parliamentarians of the State to translate the above proposals into reality.
