AASU flays Patkar, Pandeys comments

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 20 - The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today strongly criticized Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar and activist Sandeep Pandey for their irresponsible comments about AASU and anti-CAA movement in Assam.

Both the social activists who met Akhil Gogoi and other KMSS leaders in Guwahati Central Jail yesterday were critical of AASUs way of leading the anti-CAA movement in Assam. In a press conference both the activists had also asked AASU to follow the path of KMSS to strengthen the anti-CAA stir.

We warn Medha Patkar and Sandeep Pandey not to make such irresponsible statements about AASU. People of Assam are well aware about the activities of AASU. But it is unfortunate that someone of the stature of Medha Patkar and Ramon Magsaysay award winning activist Sandeep Pandey have no basic knowledge about Assam. They should not forget that anti-CAB and anti-CAA movements first started in Assam and much later in the rest of India. Perhaps both of them were in deep slumber at that time, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi stated.

By stating that we are maneuvering the movement as per the wishes of the government, both of them have insulted the Assamese peoples mass movement against CAA, they added.

AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya added that the people of Assam were the guardian of AASUs mass movement and the students body was not answerable to anyone else.
