GUWAHATI, June 1 The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) today reiterated its demand for immediate supply of textbooks to the school children of the State, who have been compelled to spend five months of an academic year without books.

Members of the students' body today submitted memorandums to the Sub-divisional Officers (SDOs) (Civil), Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and the District Elementary Education Officers (DEOs) demanding immediate supply of the textbooks to the school children.

The AASU in a statement here today said that the students of many schools of the State have been made to spend five months of an academic year without course books. By this time, half-yearly examinations are round the corner and it is a legitimate demand of the students' community that the Government should take immediate and effective measures to supply textbooks to all the students, said the students' body in its statement.
