AASU blames Govt for Jehadi activity in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 Jehadi elements could establish bases in Assam because of the failure of successive Governments at the Centre and in the State to solve the problem of infiltration of foreigners into Assam by implementing the major clauses of the Assam Accord, alleged the All Assam Students Union (AASU).

Talking to The Assam Tribune, AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya alleged that the main clauses of the Assam Accord have not been implemented even after 29 years of signing of it and demanded that the new Government at the Centre should announce a time-bound programme for dealing with the situation.

Bhattacharya said that the Jehadi elements could establish roots in Assam because of the presence of a large number of illegal migrants. The Government must now launch an aggressive drive for detecting and deporting the illegal migrants and members of the fundamentalist groups, he demanded.
