AASU alleges pay-and-pass racket in Kalaigaon College

By Correspondent

KALAIGAON, May 28 - The AASUs Kalaigaon anchalik committee has raised serious allegations against the Principal of Kalaigaon College for allowing a number of Higher Secondary first year students to HS second year against cash payment.

A memorandum in this connection signed by Ranjit Nath, president and Madhurjya Sarma, general secretary of AASUs Kalaigaon unit was addressed to the states Education Minister and routed through the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri.

The memorandum stated that there had been gross anomalies and violation of examination norms in Kalaigaon Junior College for several years.

Although various student organisations of Kalaigaon had taken up many agitational activities over the years, including dharna and submission of memorandums to the Assam government and BTC authorities, the Principal of Kalaigaon Junior College, however, has remain unscathed and undeterred till date.

The AASU alleged that Arabinda Das, Principal of the college demanded an amount of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 from each failed student of HS first year class for promotion to HS second year class during the current year, i.e., 2019-20.

Several such students had submitted complaints to AASUs Kalaigaon office against the Principal under reference. The AASU also mentioned in the memorandum that the said Principal is an accused in several cases under Sections 354/376/506.

The AASU, therefore, has urged the Education Department of Assam and BTC authorities to inquire into the matter and take immediate punitive action in the interest of the poor students who could not make payments due to financial constraints.
