AAPSU holds rally against Chakma-Hajongs

ITANAGAR, Dec 11 - The All Arunachal Pradesh Students� Union (AAPSU) along with the Joint Action Committee on Chakma-Hajong Issue, Namsai (JACCHIN) conducted a people�s referendum rally at Namsai on Tuesday against permanent settlement of Chakmas and Hajongs in the State.

After the rally, a three-point memorandum was submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) through the DC, Namsai.

The rally adopted resolutions demanding no non-native group or individuals should be allowed to be granted rights of permanent settlement in Arunachal, the provisions of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 must be strictly adhered to and Union Government along with Arunachal Government must file curative petition in the Supreme Court against apex court�s decision to grant citizenship rights to the Chakmas and Hajongs.

A mass signature campaign to protest the September 17 Supreme Court verdict for granting citizenship to the Chakma and Hajong refugees was also conducted during the rally.
