A day out for yoga enthusiasts

SILCHAR, June 21 - In commemoration of the third International Day of Yoga, enthusiasts at various places across Cachar district participated in yoga events on Wednesday.

The central function was held at the Assam Rifles Field wherein Cachar Deputy Commissioner S Vishwanathan inaugurated the yoga camp alongside former Union minister Kabindra Purakasytha. Noted yoga trainer Sukumar Nath imparted lessons to more than 1,000 yoga enthusiasts of all ages.

Addressing the yoga enthusiasts, Deputy Commissioner said, �Yoga strikes a harmony between mind and body. We are happy to witness such a large turnout of people to participate in the camp.�

On the other hand, former Union minister Kabindra Purakasytha congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving home glory to the country by dint of his efforts to get this day recognised worldwide by the United Nations.

The day was celebrated in Lakhipur subdivision as well. In a camp at Earl Higher Secondary School, the SDO JR Lalsim spoke on the relevance of the day. Yoga Day was celebrated by various other associations across the district.

The North East Council of Alternative Medicine organised a camp in which Deputy Speaker Dilip Kumar Paul attended and performed some exercises. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Speaker said, �The spirit of yoga was rekindled in the country by Swami Ramdev through his pursuits across the nook and corners of the country.�

DOOMDOOMA: Along with the rest of the world, the International Day of Yoga was also observed in Doomdooma today. In most of the educational institutions of Doomdooma circle, including Doomdooma College, Learners� High School, Doomdooma Bangiya Vidyalaya etc., yoga camps were organised where students and teachers participated in large number.

Ramdhenu Mohila Chora, a women organisation of Doomdooma, also observed the day at the Doomdooma Asomiya Puja and the Natya Mandir premises. The Pragati Sakha of Marwari Yuva Manch and Akhil Marwari Mohila Samity jointly observed the day at Doomdooma Marwari Panchayati Bhawan.

MANGALDAI: Darrang district administration celebrated the International Day of Yoga with several yoga-related programmes. The daylong celebration began at Sainik Bhawan with the lighting of lamp in the morning today followed by inaugural function and demonstration of the community yoga.

Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman addressed the gathering in the inaugural function where a large number of people, including government officers, students, members of different public organisations, took part.

Other features of the celebration included a seminar on the benefits of yoga practice, yoga competition and cultural presentation on yoga. On the other hand, the Darrang district unit of Krira Bharati in collaboration with local units of BJP, ABVP, Biswa Hindu Parishad, Seva Bharati and Sahkar Bharati organised a yoga demonstration near Borpukhuri here at the centre of the Mangaldai town in the morning today. North East unit chief of RSS, Basistha Bujarbarua, attended the function as the chief guest.

The officers and jawans of the 23 Battalion of the SSB at its headquarter located at Lalpool bordering Darrang and Udalguri also celebrated the International Day of Yoga here. Around 150 members of the unit, including its Commanding Officer Jiten Singh, participated in the one-hour yoga demonstration conducted by yoga trainer ASI Dil Bahadur Sutar. Similarly officers and staff of Kharupetia police station also observed the day with much enthusiasm.

DIBRUGARH: The International Day of Yoga was observed in different parts of the district by various organisations, institutions and government agencies today.

The district administration organised a yoga camp at Anvik Lawns in Khalihamari.

Another major yoga event was organised in Muttock tea estate�s Karma Bhawan. The programme was held under the aegis of Assam Branch of India Tea Association. Some 330 adolescent girls from about 40 tea estates attended the programme. The event started off with the National Anthem.

The yoga poses were demonstrated by Anup Gogoi. Sewali Borbora, the chairperson of the District Child Welfare Committee, was the chief guest for the open session. Sailen Goswami, Manager of Muttuck TE; sportsman Bhaskar Gogoi; and Dr Raghunath Borbora, retired principal of DHSK Commerce College, attended the function as special guests. The other events included entertainment programmes and sports for the participating girls.

The International Day of Yoga was also celebrated by various clubs, NGOs, PSUs, schools and colleges across Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.
