93 per cent of NRC documents verified in Kamrup Metro

GUWAHATI, Dec 3 - Verification of 93 per cent of the documents submitted by applicants for enrolment in the NRC has been completed so far.

The entire team of NRC officials is currently working on the final verification and draft writing activities, the administration said today.

In total, 2,66,224 applicants had applied for NRC in Kamrup Metro district covering 5 revenue circles and 78 NRC Sewa Kendras. Till date, Kamrup Metro district has completed verification of 7,16,225 documents issued by different issuing authorities, which constitutes 93 per cent of the total documents.

In total, 281 verification teams have been formed by the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration for the house-to-house verification which started from December 1. These teams will investigate on behalf of the District Magistrate (Deputy Commissioner). Further, they will verify the documents submitted by the applicants wherever there are some discrepancies.

During this exercise, the verification teams will check the original copies of the documents which were earlier submitted by the applicants, wherever the need arises.

Another activity which is currently underway is the writing of the final draft. This draft NRC will consist of the names of those people who are eligible for inclusion in the draft along with their village names and ward numbers in case of town or city. This activity is going on in the NRC Sewa Kendras. For this task, an additional 1,100 people have been deputed from various departments to complete it within the stipulated time.

All contractual and government employees are working on a war footing in order to adhere to the strict timeline set by the Supreme Court, the administration said.
