89th birthday of Ratna Ojah celebrated

GUWAHATI, Dec 5 - The 89th birthday of Kalaratna Ratna Ojah, eminent artiste, writer and social activist, was observed under the auspices of the Kalaratna Sambardhana Samiti at Bhetapara today.

Dr Prabir Kumar Choudhury explained the purpose of the function while Ramen Das, nephew of Ojah, narrated the literary and other activities of Ojah.

Senior journalist DN Chakravartty, while addressing the meeting, said that Ojah, who was born in the cultural centre Barpeta, was fortunate enough to get the blessings of distinguished personalities like Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Dr Maheswar Neog and Dr Birinchi Kumar Baruah in his college and university days and also in the early stages of his illustrious career.

Chakravartty suggested that Ojah be honoured with a Padma award as he has enriched Assamese culture and literature with his diverse contributions and played a big role in national integration.

Former Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mushahary, Sattriya exponent Jatin Goswami, bureaucrat Thaneswar Malakar, senior journalists Munin Bayan and Ajit Bhuyan, Manisha Hazarika and Arati Sarma congratulated Ojah on his birthday, wishing him an active and creative life ahead.

Ojah thanked the people of Guwahati for the love and affection showered on him.
