DIPHU, Jan 8 - Amid bandhs called by various organisations, the Karbi Anglong civic polls for nine town committees spread across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong autonomous districts concluded without any interruption registering massive turnout.

Polling began in the early morning and went up to 3 pm. According to preliminary reports received from various places, more than 80 per cent poling was recorded. According to polling officials, in some places more than 90% voting was recorded. Besides different students and social organisations which called for an 11-hour Assam bandh, 24 plus organisations of Karbi Anglong had called for a 12 -hour bandh and poll boycott but the massive turnout of voters in the civic poll proved otherwise.

The town committees which went for poll today were Diphu, Howraghat, Bokajan, Bakalia, Dokmoka, Hamren, Baithalangso, Donkamokum and Langhing where election was held for one ward as five members had been elected unopposed benefiting the ruling BJP earlier.
