80% of Central jobs occupied by outsiders

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 Expressing concern over the large number of candidates from outside getting recruited in various Central sector non-gazetted jobs in Assam, public activist Prof Deven Dutta said that matters had been made worse by the inexplicable silence of the State Government, various political parties and student organizations on the issue.

Prof Dutta said in a statement that over 80 per cent Central sector jobs including railways and other Central Government undertakings were occupied by the people from outside, more particularly from West Bengal and Bihar, to the deprivation of the locals.

This is a serious situation, and there is reason to believe that Assam and the North-east have been a victim of a deep-rooted conspiracy in the matter of employment in the Central sector jobs. Regrettably, the State Government, the opposition parties and the student bodies choose to maintain an inexplicable silence over such a grave issue having long-term socio-economic implications for the region, he said.

Prof Dutta said that the State Government was totally cut-off from the people and the reality, which was emboldening the anti-Assam elements to work overtime to further their vested interests while depriving the State.
