8 child labourers rescued

GUWAHATI, July 1 � A team of officials from the Kamrup Metro district administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka along with personnel from the Labour department, National Child Labour�Project (NCLP) and police, today rescued eight children in the age group of 8 to 13 who were found working at various commercial establishments.

The kids were rescued during a raid by the officials at Lakhtokia locality, an official statement said.

�Some of them were working in inhuman conditions. The team handed over the children to Childline, an NGO,� it said.

The release said that the raid and rescue was part of the Kamrup Metro district administration�s effort to eradicate child labour, at both commercial establishments and in domestic households.

�The Labour department will issue showcase notices to these commercial establishments for violation of the Child Labour Act. The department will also take appropriate actions against the commercial establishments,� it said.

The district administration has also decided to take care of the education of the rescued kids.
