70th Independence Day celebrated

GUWAHATI, Aug 16 - Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and the Northeast Frontier Railway Construction Organization also celebrated the 70th Independence Day on Monday.

At the Maligaon Railway Headquarter complex, NFR General Manager Chahatey Ram unfurled the National Flag in presence of a huge gathering of railway officials and their families. In his speech, Ram highlighted the need for having cleanliness at railway stations and coaches for better passenger service.

Independence Day was celebrated at NFR Construction Organization Headquarters complex. HK Jaggi, General Manager of NFR (Construction) unfurled the National Tricolour and took the salute of the RPF contingent.

In his speech, he spoke on the performance of NFR (Construction) in the past and various plans for the future.

At Guwahati Refinery: Independence Day was celebrated at Guwahati Refinery with due fervour and enthusiasm. On the occasion a series of programmes were held at the Sector II playground of the Guwahati Refinery township where all the employees, their families and people from greater Noonmati area took part. Jogen Barpujari, Executive Director, Guwahati Refinery, attended the programme as the chief guest.

At Don Bosco School: Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati, celebrated Independence Day with a colourful programme in the school campus.

The chief guest on the occasion was Prateek Hajela, Home Commissioner and State Coordinator, NRC, who hoisted the Tricolour.

At Royal Global School: Royal Global School celebrated Independence Day by hoisting a huge Tricolour measuring 30� x 20� on a 111-foot-high flag mast. The flag was hoisted by AK Pansari and AK Modi, chairman and vice chairman respectively of Royal Global School in presence of a large gathering.

At St Francis De Sales School: St Francis De Sales School, Narengi, celebrated Independence Day in a befitting manner. The day started off with the scouts and guides troop welcoming Fr George, who is the provincial of the North-east India province and was also the chief guest of the function.

At Press Club: Independence Day was celebrated at the Guwahati Press Club (GPC) with scribes, senior citizens and members of civil society congregating enthusiastically on the occasion. Senior journalist Anup Sarma hoisted the flag.

ITBP programme: Independence Day was also celebrated with gaiety and fervour by 33rd Bn Indo-Tibetan Border Police along with NGO Round Table (India) Guwahati at Transit Camp Jalukbari and Games village. RS Chandel, Commandant, took the salute.

At Natun Sarania: Independence Day was also celebrated at Natun Sarania where academician and social worker Prof Srijib Chakrabarty hoisted the flag.
