DIPHU, Feb 26 Four armed constables of 23rd IRBP and three civilians were injured when a mob of around 500 persons attacked Deithor police outpost at around 10.30 am today. All the injured police personnel and civilians have been rushed to nearby Golaghat civil hospital after the incident. The outpost is under Borpathar police station in Bokajan subdivision.

According to Siraj Ingti, officer in charge of Borpathar police station, Some armed persons in the midst of the mob fired on the police constables camped inside, Havildar Nripan Kalita and constable Diganta Deka sustained bullet injuries in their abdomen. The rampaging horde destroyed the food stock of the reserved police. One Sumo patrolling vehicle and a motor cycle used by the police have also been damaged by the crowd. It may be recalled here that a 13-year-old tea tribe boy identified as Rakhal Gour was allegedly shot dead by Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) commandos at Malasi Namkhi Gaur Basti village, a tea tribe-dominated area in December 8, 2011. The incident triggered violent mob protests.

The incident occurred when Gour came out of the woods around 5.00 am after attending to natures call, locals alleged. Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) commandos, who had laid an ambush for suspected militants of Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT) shot him dead without provocation. A mob ransacked the same police outpost that day, in the incident present SP Anurag Agarwal received head injury.

The same police outpost is in the news after a few months for mob attack again but for a different cause.

While talking to this reporter from the place of incident, Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong Rakesh Kumar said, our priority is to arrange necessary medica aid to the injured, all the eight persons are being shifted to Jorhat Medical College, and situation is totally under control.
