AIZAWL, March 16 - Aizawl-based Association for Environmental Preservation (ASEP) has felicitated seven people in recognition of their outstanding contribution towards environmental protection.
The NGO was sponsored by Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA).
In a felicitation function held at Aizawl Press Club recently, ASEP president K Lalmuansanga presented citations to the winners.
The prestigious award was posthumously awarded to Jacob Vanlaltanpui and C Laldampuia, both from Bualpui �H� who sacrificed their lives while attempting to prevent illegal fishing with explosives in Tiau river on April 24, 2008.
Darmawii from Bawlte village, who lost her life while undertaking a valiant effort to douse forest fire, was also awarded posthumously. In 2010, Mawii along with villagers went out to douse a jhum fire.
The award was also conferred on Dunglena from Laipuitlang locality for his relentless effort in protecting forest area at Laipuitlang since 1988.
The other awardees are V Thanzauva from Khatla locality for protecting forest area at Hmuifang since 1950 and C Vanlalsawma from Zonuam locality for contributing towards environmental protection in Aizawl city.
