6th International Tourism Mart to begin today

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - The 6th International Tourism Mart (ITM), organised by the Ministry of Tourism in association with the northeastern states, will begin here tomorrow.

The three-day event will be inaugurated by Governor Jagdish Mukhi in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Tourism Secretary Rashmi Verma.

The Tourism Mart will put the spotlight on India�s �Act East Policy�, blossoming ties with ASEAN and the larger East Asia region, home to the world�s rapidly growing economies and India�s emerging tourism markets. Besides deliberations on promotion of tourism in the Northeast in general, keeping the objectives of the �'Act East Policy� in view, the panel discussions will also focus on promoting cultural ties, people-to-people contact with countries in the ASEAN region providing enhanced connectivity to the Northeastern states with other countries in the neighbourhood, thereby developing inter-regional tourism between the ASEAN and Northeast region of India.

The ITM-2017 will also see an active role of the Ministry of DoNER to synergise the process of development of tourism in the Northeast.

This is the 6th International Tourism Mart and an annual event organised in NE with the objective of highlighting the tourism potential of the region in the domestic and international markets.

Buyers and media delegates from around the world and from different regions of the country will participate in the Mart and engage in one-to-one meetings with sellers from the Northeast.

Around 66 foreign delegates comprising stakeholders and mediapersons from over 29 countries, namely Australia, Bhutan, Brunei, Canada, China, Cambodia, Cyprus, Fiji, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, US, UK, Vietnam, Turkey and South Korea are participating in the event.
