69,860 voters in Tezpur subdivision

TEZPUR, Jan 30 � A total of 69,860 voters in 33 wards under the Tezpur and Dhekiajuli Municipal Board and Rangapara Town Committee area in Tezpur subdivision will exercise their voting rights to elect 33 ward commissioners in the ensuing municipal election, slated on February 9.

A total of 130 candidates representing different political parties as well as Independents have filed their nomination papers to fight the polls. Out of the total number of voters, 34,281 are male and the remaining 35,579 are female. For the voters of 19 wards at Tezpur, altogether 55 polling booths have been arranged. For the voters of the 10 wards of the Dhekiajuli town, 19 polling booths have been set up.

Likewise, for the voters of the four wards of the Rangapara Town Committee, a total of 10 polling booths have been arranged. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on January 31 at the DC�s conference Hall here. February 2 is the scheduled date for withdrawal of nominations.
