GUWAHATI, Jan 25 The 65th Republic Day of the country will be celebrated in the State along with the rest of the country tomorrow.

In Assam, the occasion will be centrally organised at the Veterinary College playground at Khanapara, where Governor JB Patnaik will unfurl the National Tricolour at 9 am. Top officials of the State will be present on the occasion, which will also witness a series of colourful events along with the parade.

Republic Day will also be celebrated in all the district headquarters of the State.

Meanwhile, security arrangements, following the boycott call by a number of militant groups, have been intensified and security forces strategically deployed in all the vulnerable places of the State, including airports, railway stations and oil installations.

In Guwahati, close circuit television cameras will keep a tab on anything suspicious in and around the Republic Day celebration venue, besides other important places.

Special steps have been taken at entry points of Guwahati to ensure that no antisocial element manages to sneak in to create disturbances. Routine checking of vehicles is also on, a senior Assam Police official said.

Movement of vehicular traffic will also be regulated in and around the venue.

PTI adds: The border areas with Bangladesh and Bhutan are specially monitored with the BSF and SSB on high alert. Operations were also launched against insurgents resulting in the arrest of four KPLT militants, sources said.
