6 tribal villagers kidnapped

AGARTALA, July 1 � The outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) kidnapped six tribal villagers from a border village in South Tripura district, police said today.

A group of armed militant entered into the house of Kulendra Reang at Ujanbari, 14 km from Nutun Bazar police station on Wednesday late night and kidnapped five villagers including the house owner.

The incident took place when five labourers who were engaged in making a room in the house of Kulendra were having food around 9.30 pm.

While returning, the militants also took away another villager and retreated toward the Indo-Bangla border, according to villagers. Kulendra who had surrendered before the State Government five years back, is now an employee of Nutunbazar HS School while remaining five are day-labourers.

Senior police officers along with reinforcement rushed to the spot and launched combing operation to rescue the kidnapped villagers. Security has been beefed up along the Indo-Bangla border. However, security forces could not trace the fleeing militants yet.
