6 test positive in Jorhat post vaccination

JORHAT, March 16: Altogether six persons of Jorhat district, including one policeman and a CISF personnel, who were administered the Covishield vaccine recently have tested positive for COVID-19.

The CISF jawan had also taken the second shot with the first shot administered in February 11 in Kolkata as he was on duty in the West Bengal capital.

According to a health department official, two couples – one from Atilagaon and other from the Na Ali area, who fall in the category of 60 years and above, had taken the first shot on March 4 at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). They were admitted to JMCH on March 13 and 14, respectively after testing positive for COVID-19 and their condition is stated to be stable.

The official said a constable of 1st APBn, currently on deputation with the Jorhat district police, was found infected with the virus on March 12 after he was deputed with the general observer for Jorhat election district Manjit Singh Brar, who tested positive COVID-19 on March 9.

The police constable, who had taken the first shot of the vaccine on February 26 under the frontline warrior category, is now undergoing treatment at JMCH since March 12.

The health department official said the CISF jawan hailing from Jelengitup, Borsumoni village of Teok in Jorhat district, during his stay in Kolkata had taken the first shot at a BSF camp there on February 11 and after reaching here on February 28, he took the second shot on March 12 at the Bhogamukh PHC in the Teok area.

On Monday (March 15), the CISF jawan went to join duty in his unit here, where he was asked to go for a COVID-19 test by the authorities. Accordingly, he underwent a test at JMCH and was found positive after which he opted for home isolation, the official said, adding as per medical records, the CISF jawan was administered Covaxin.

When contacted, Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati confirmed to The Assam Tribune this evening that six persons, who were vaccinated, had tested positive for COVID-19.

Korati said that the vaccination process was under way as per procedure in the district.

PTI adds from Guwahati: Assam’s COVID-19 caseload rose to 2,17,817 as 20 more people tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours, while one fresh fatality pushed the death toll to 1,099, a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission (NHM) said.

Of the 20 new cases, 10 were reported from Kamrup Metropolitan district, while Nagaon and Tinsukia accounted for four and three, respectively, it said.

Assam currently has 265 active COVID-19 cases, while 2,15,106 patients have recovered from the disease, the bulletin said, adding, the COVID-19 recovery rate in the State currently is 98.76 per cent.

Meanwhile, 23,272 people were administered COVID-19 vaccine on Monday taking the total number of beneficiaries to 5,68,176 so far. A total of 1,173 people with comorbidity, 8,466 senior citizens and 8,608 healthcare workers and frontline workers received the first dose of vaccine on Monday.

Around 5,025 healthcare and frontline workers also received the second dose of vaccine.

The cumulative total number of beneficiaries and healthcare workers, who received the first dose of the vaccine so far in the State, is 4,74,421, while 83,755 have received the second dose.
