6 killed in bus mishap in N Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 23 � Six persons were killed in a major road accident in North Lakhimpur early this morning.

The tragedy occurred when two night service buses coming from opposite directions collided head-on near the Hatiloong bridge on NH-52 at Hatiloong in North Lakhimpur around 4.30 in the morning. One Silapathar-bound bus (AS-01-R 2611) coming from Barpeta rammed against an Itanagar-bound night service bus (AR-02-0414) coming from Aalong in Arunachal Pradesh when they reached the bridge. Six persons including the driver and handyman of the Silapathar-bound bus died on the spot while 33 passengers from both the bus were seriously injured. The deceased have been identified as Nanda Rajbanshi (43), driver, Rajani Das (35), handyman, Apek Pitek (30), Kamin Pitek (7), Kajan Tamung (24), Hilly Doku (46). The injured have been admitted to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital and some of them have been shifted to hospitals in Itanagar.
