6 injured in Imphal blast

IMPHAL, Nov 5 - Five policemen and a civilian were injured when a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded here this morning, police sources said.

The blast took place in front of a grocery shop located along the Thangal Bazar-Khoyathong Road around 9.20 am. Some vehicles parked near the explosion site were damaged under the impact of the blast. Some window panes in the nearby buildings were also shattered.

The injured, including an additional SP, have been shifted to a private hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable, according to hospital sources.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, accompanied by senior police officers, inspected the explosion site. After visiting the injured persons at the hospital along with Manipur DGP LM Khaute, the Chief Minister condemned the incident and said that his Government would take necessary action.

Later, the police conducted a search operation in and around Thangal Bazar and picked up a few persons for interrogation. The police department also announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the identification and arrest of the persons involved in the blast.

It may be mentioned here three BSF personnel were injured in a similar blast at Telipati in Imphal East district on November 2. The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Department said in a press note today: �Both the blasts took place in public places/highly crowded area without any regard for public safety.�

Drugs found: Assam Rifles troops recovered drugs worth Rs 92 lakh from the Khudengthabi check post in Tengnoupal district on November 3, a press release stated.

Heroin weighing 230 gm was seized and a person was detained, who was later handed over to the Moreh Police Station for further investigation, the release added.
