JORHAT, Jan 8 - Police on Monday arrested six youths, including four students of Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) following lodging of complaints with the police by students and local youths of Garamur outskirts here, with both groups alleging that they were attacked by each other on Sunday.

A police source said that two FIRs one by about 30 youths of Garamur near the Jorhat Engineering College and the other by a group of hostel students of the college were lodged at Garmur police outpost under Jorhat Police Station alleging physical assaults by both the groups on Sunday after a quarrel erupted when a group of boys from an adjacent village reportedly started to play cricket inside the Jorhat Engineering College campus.

The source said that the quarrel started after the Jorhat Engineering College students opposed playing of cricket inside the college campus and thereafter both sides attacked each other and two persons reportedly were injured.

Police later released all the arrested persons on bail. Two cases, i.e., 42/2019 and 44/2019 were registered at the Jorhat Police Station on the basis of the first information reports lodged by both sides.

The source added that investigation into the case was under way and those found guilty would soon be booked.
