6 held for setting bus on fire at police station

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, Feb 5 - In a sensational incident reported late, miscreants broke open the main entry gate to the Roing Police Station in Lower Dibang Valley district and vandalised a bus kept within the police station premises before setting it ablaze. However, the fire was doused by fire brigade personnel.

The incident had occurred on February 2 last. The bus was seized in connection with the Roing PS case No. 14/2019 registered under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304(A) (causing death by negligence).

Acting swiftly, the police arrested six persons after they were identified with the help of photos and video footage of the incident.

A case No. 15/2019 under Sections 147/148/151/447/427/353/186/436 of the IPC (read with Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act) has been registered against them.

More arrests are likely as some miscreants have been evading arrest, said Lower Dibang Valley SP Sanjay Kumar Sain.

The bus was seized in connection with the accident that occurred on February 1 in which a motorcyclist, identified as Ogan Lego of Rayang village, Roing, was killed. The driver of the bus had fled before the arrival of the police.

The SP, while seeking cooperation from Roing residents including civil societies, parental organisations and student unions to nab all the absconding accused, has warned that anyone trying to take the law into their hands would be dealt with firmly.
