By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 14 The six ethnic groups which have been demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to their communities will tomorrow send a joint delegation to New Delhi to take up their issue with the Central political leaders of the country.

All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU) president Pranjal Rajkonwar told this newspaper that the delegation will comprise 38 representatives of the organisations of the six ethnic groups. They will stay in the National Capital till December 19.

The delegation will meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister SK Shinde and Tribal Affairs Minister Kishore Chandra Deo, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and all the MPs from Assam.

They may meet the Registrar General of India. But the thrust is on meeting the political leaders, as the issue is a political one, said Rajkonwar.

Meanwhile, the State Government has informed the leaders of the six ethnic groups that it has also decided to send a delegation of its officials to New Delhi to take up the issue with the Central leaders, Rajkonwar said.

Koch-Rajbongshi: The Koch-Rajbongshi Peoples Association today staged a dharna at the Dispur Last Gate demanding ST status to the Koch-Rajbongshis and warned of a self-immolation programme to fulfill this demand.
