5th Jeevan Kite, River Festival from today

GUWAHATI, Dec 31 - Volunteers� association Jeevan Initiative is putting together �The Brahmaputra Campaign� and its lead event the 5th Jeevan Kite and River Festival, which will be inaugurated tomorrow at 12:15 pm at Rajaduwar Ghat in Panbazar.

In the same event, a compilation containing 100 positive news for the State would also be released.

Kites from Korea and China as well as various places in India will be flown on the riverbank sky.

Kite has been a metaphor for denoting the flight and freedom of mind. This year, in technical association with Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association and Global Adventure Association, various adventure activities including parasailing, ATB bike, water zorbing ball and many other acts have been added to the festival menu.

A choreography contest based on the songs on river Brahmaputra and its tributaries is being organized. An exhibition of photographs and art work based on the river has also been put up at the site.

The event would also include cultural shows, sky watch, aero-modelling, robotics, river cruise etc. The evenings will witness lighting up of the riverbank with thousands of earthen lamps. The organizers have requested the people to join the Brahmaputra Vandana as a tribute to the great river.

�The Brahmaputra Campaign has incorporated various other activities including a �helping hand initiative� with water purifiers, lamps, kitchen utensils for the villagers affected by devastating floods. Jeevan has also adopted a village on the bank of Jinari River. Assam lemon saplings have been planted in unutilized land of most of the villagers,� said a statement.

Jeevan Kite and River Festival will remain open from 10 am to 10 pm till January 7.
