5th Guwahati Film Festival from Dec 10

GUWAHATI, Dec 8 � With an objective to promote quality and meaningful cinema among the audience of the State, Gauhati Cine Club would organize the Fifth Guwahati Film Festival from December 10 to 16, 2012 at Rabindra Bhawan.

Dedicated to eminent film maker Brajen Baruah, the festival is being organized in association with European Union Club and Film Federation Society of India.

Addressing the media today, president of the Gauhati Cine Club, AK Absar Hazarika said that after much effort, two films of Brajen Baruah, namely Dr Bezbaruah and Lolita have been retrieved and one of the films would be screened in the festival to pay homage to the eminent filmmaker.

Films from 20 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Denmark, Lithuania Luxemburg, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Finland, England, South Africa, Mexico, Bangladesh etc., would be screened in the festival.

�We are encouraged by the appreciation our film fest has received over the years and with our experience we can say that there are people to appreciate the quality cinema,� Madhurima Baruah, secretary of the club said.

The inaugural function would be held on December 10 at 5 pm at Rabindra Bhawan. Pranati Phukan, Minister for Cultural Affairs would inaugurate the fest while acclaimed filmmaker from Manipur Aribam Syam Sharma would be present as the guest of honour. The latest film of Sharma Leipaklei, based on Arambam Samarendra�s Sahitya Akademy Award winning play Tirtha Yatra, would be screened as the inaugural film, and the leading lady of the film T Leishangthem would be present as a special guest of the inaugural function.

There will be three shows of the festival from December 11 at 11.30 am, 3 pm and 5 pm. One short film would be screened before each show.

Other than delegate cards for the Gauhati Cine Club members, there are different packages of entry fee for the film lovers, who want to enjoy quality films during the fest and they have to contact the organisers.
