5th alumni meet of NIT Silchar held

SILCHAR, Nov 1 � Nostalgia was reverberating inside the Students Activity Centre of the National Institute of Technology Silchar during the fifth reunion of the institute on Saturday. As many as 50 members mostly from the 1989 batch and some from the 1999 batch attended the meeting.

The alumni meeting chaired by Prof Fazal A Talukdar, the director in-charge, saw the former students of the institute recollecting the memorable moments during their student days.

In his address, Prof Talukdar said that the alumni meeting which has been organised every year with great enthusiasm since 2010 is an excellent opportunity for the NITS fraternity to converge and exchange ideas and share experiences. Prof BK Roy, the president of the Rexian NITS Alumni Association said that with time the institute has also undergone a lot of changes. He informed that the institute is looking forward for an intake of 5000 students by 2017.

Prof AK Sinha, dean of the alumni association said that the institute is enriched by the contributions made by the former students. He said that NITS aspires to grow along with the active involvement of its alumni. Earlier, Dr KL Baishnab, the organising joint secretary gave the welcome address highlighting the need for such meeting as it will help the former students learn about the developments taking place in their alma matter and also they will be able to interact with the students and share their experiences with them. The meeting will conclude on Sunday amidst discussions and cultural events.
