59th Tihu Central Rongali Bihu from April 14

TIHU, April 7 - The people of greater Tihu area is celebrating the 59th Tihu Central Rongali Bihu with a six-day-long programme at the Tihu High School playground starting from April 14. A strong celebration committee has been formed in this connection with Sankar Kumar Das as president, Prafulla Kalita as working president, Daya Barman, Naudhan Mazumdar, Harekrishna Talukdar, Bharat Talukdar, Alakesh Choudhury, Kishor Kumar Sarma, Kushal Talukdar, Biman Kalita as vice-presidents, Sanjib Pathak and Ratul Kalita as secretaries, Hitesh Barman, Suny Talukdar, Himangshu Sethia, Hrishikesh Sarma, Kuldeep Talukdar as assistant secretary, Nayanjyoti Kalita as finance secretary, Hemanta Talukdar and Mahesh Sarman (Nitu) as cultural secretaries.

The first day programmes includes hoisting of different flags like Bihu Flag, Literary Flag, Cultural Frag, Sports Flag and Peace and Unity Flag by Sankar Kr Das, president, Bihu celebration committee, Pratibha Devi, retired teacher, Nathkuchi, Dwijen Sarma, eminent drama artist, Paresh Ch Sarma, secretary, Tihu Sports Association and Somnath Deka, retired professor of Tihu College respectively followed by smriti tarpan to be performed by Prafulla Kalita, working president, Celebration Committee, Nagen Saloi, vice-president, ANCP, Nalbari and Jiten Talukdar, ex-student leader. Among other programmes, a special felicitation programme for some eminent persons of greater Tihu area will be held at their own residences. Among those to be felicitated are Karuna Kanta Kalita, former president, Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha, Madan Sarma, senior citizen, Tihu, Ramesh Sarma, retired teacher, Sialmari, Sarat Barman, farmer, Haribhanga and Sabitgri Nath, a senior citizen of Tihu.

The open meeting and prize distribution ceremony to be held on April 18 will be attended by Pabindra Deka, MLA, Patacharkuchi and Dr Ramesh Pathak, Sahityacharjya. The cultural night to be held on April 18 and April 19 will be inaugurated by popular actresses Lily Medhi and Preeti Kongana where Kusum Kailash, Merllin and Ankurani will enthrall the public.
