GUWAHATI, March 7 � The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) at present has 585 buses and 1,360 buses are running under it.
On Dec 31, 2010, the figures were 273 and 1,157 respectively. The ASTC at present has 2,197 employees and an amount of Rs 4.06 crore is spent monthly for their salary. This was stated by Transport Minister Chandan Brahma in a written reply to a question from Aminul Islam (AIUDF) in the Assembly today.
To another question by Anjan Dutta (Congress), the minister said that the matter of provincializing the services of the ASTC employees was under consideration of the Government. He added that an amount of Rs 1.92 crore was spent monthly from non-Plan head for the salary of the employees.
