By Correspondent

UDALGURI, June 11 - As many as 52 BPF workers, including Tikaram Jogi, organising secretary of the Dhansiri Block of BPF, and Jas Bahadur Chhetry, office secretary of the Dhansiri Primary BPF, joined the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) of Badruddin Ajmal on Wednesday at Udalguri in the presence of Mitharam Basumatary, former executive member of erstwhile BTC and now a candidate of the AIUDF from 37 Dhansiri constituency.

In a press release, Tikaram Jogi said he had been serving the BPF since its inception, and alleged that there was no meaning of equal development, equal rights in the last Hagrama regime as the party failed to carry out development works for the poor.

A disappointed Jogi alleged that there should be a special investigation into the appointments of ANM nurses and third and fourth grade appointments under the transport department in the region.

It is to be noted that there are about 70,000 voters in the 37 Dhansiri constituency. Of the 70,000 voters, 26,000 are tribals, 23,000 religious minority voters, 13,000 Assamese voters, 8,000 Gorkha voters and the rest are other voters.

Meanwhile, Mitharam Basumatary, the AIUDF candidate from the constituency, hoped that with the joining of new members, the AIUDF will get a shot in the arm.

It needs mention here that in the last BTC elections, Robert Narzari, who won from the AIUDF, later joined the BPF. A senior AIUDF member said that the new members would boost the activities of the party in the days to come.
