51st BSS session begins today in West Bengal

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 20 � Chakamari-Madarihat in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal is now all set to host the 51st annual conference of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) beginning from tomorrow with a three-day programme.

According to reception committee sources, a huge marquee along with stages and exhibitation stalls, delegates camps, dining hall, etc. has been erected on the ground to provide shelter and dining facilities to about 1200 delegates and to provide the venue for BSS session. The reception committee has been making preparation to host the occasion for last few months and different sub committees of the reception committees are engaged in the preparation in a dedicated manner.

The general meeting of West Bengal BSS and Jalpaiguri District BSS around 11 am tomorrow will mark the beginning of the programme. Jagadish Ch Deb Karjee will inaugurate Lt. Michael Basumatary Exhibition & Book Fair at 3 pm. This will be followed by first delegate meeting at 6 pm. Ramesh Ch Suba will inaugurate the session, while the cultural night will be inaugurated by Dwarendra Iswarary at 7 pm.

On the second day, the programme will begin with the hoisting of the BSS flag at 8 am by Dr Kameswar Brahma, president of BSS. At 8.30 am homage will be paid to the martyrs. This will be initiated by BSS vice president Bisweswar Basumatary. Jweel Basumatary will release the souvenir being brought out on the occasion at 9.30 am and the award presentation and felicitation ceremony will he held at 11 am.

The history-cum-literary session planned on the occasion on the topic �Introduction of Bodo Medium Education in West Bengal State under the Provisions of RTE, 2009,� will be inaugurated by Gautam Deb, North Bengal Development Minister, Govt of West Bengal. Dr Mangal Sing Hazowary, principal CTE, Kokrajhar will be the chairperson of the seminar. The second day�s programme includes delegates� session at 4 pm and cultural night at 7 pm.

The last day�s programme includes a cultural procession at 9 am which will be flagged off by Wilson Champramary, MLA, Kalchini, West Bengal. Cultural troops from different communities are expected to take part in the procession. The open session on the occasion has been planned at 12 noon. Dr. Arunabha Basu Majumdar, Vice Chancellor, North Bengal Univercity, Siliguri, West Bengal will attend the programme as chief guest, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chandan Brahma, Ministers of Assam will attend the programme as distinguished guests. Hagrama Mohilary, Chief of BTC will inaugurate it.
