51 vote counting centres in State

GUWAHATI, May 9 - Counting of votes for the Assembly elections will begin at 8 am on May 19 across 51 counting centres in the State.

In an official statement, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, said that 51 counting centres have been set up across 50 electoral districts of Assam.

While there are two counting centres in Nagaon electoral district, all other electoral districts have one counting centre each.

It added that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the Assembly polls are safe in 126 strong rooms and strict security is being maintained at all these places.

Voting for the Assembly polls in the State had taken place in two phases on April 4 and 11. A total of 1,064 candidates are in fray for the 126 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in the State.
