5 State institutes selected to receive aid for various projects

GUWAHATI, April 2 - A donation award function organised by the Chaliha Foundation and the Jadav Prasad and Debabala Chaliha Trust was held at India Club recently where five institutes from Assam were selected to receive a total amount of Rs 22,44,600 for various projects.

Speaking about their initiative, Ranjit Chaliha, trustee, Chaliha Foundation and Jadav Prasad and Debabala Chaliha Trust, said, �We selected five institutions from the State to help them in their projects. These organisations have been working for the welfare of society for many years and it is our privilege to be able to help them in their cause.�

The five institutes selected include �Swabalambi�, a rural centre for early intervention, prevention and stimulation for children with disabilities at Dimoria block, which received an amount of Rs 5,50,700 from the Trust; �Creative�, an organisation which trains students of children�s clubs on conservation of the environment, wildlife and forest at Chayani and Rani blocks and for skilling handicapped people in making handicraft items, received an amount of Rs 6,43,500; the �Institute of Child Health and Mother Welfare,� providing skill training programme for unemployed women, midwifery and home care nursing, received an amount of Rs 3,50,400. �Parijat Academy� received an amount of Rs 4,00,000 for setting up a classroom for 50 students, while �North East Network� received Rs 3,00,000 for their project Saneki Weaves.

The Chaliha Foundation was registered in 1975 and the Jadav Prasad and Debabala Chaliha Trust in 1997. Both the Trusts were instituted by the children of Jadav Prasad and Debabala Chaliha after their demise.
